Formula 4: Schumacher, Vettel und DEKRA
The most famous name in the starting line-up is Mick Schumacher, a certain Sebastian Vettel is the patron, and, naturally, DEKRA is the series partner: The ADAC Formula 4 series is already a real corker in its inaugural season. 38 talented drivers from a total of 13 nations promise racing action of the highest quality in all 24 of the season's races. As well as Mick Schumacher, the 16-year-old son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, Jonathan Cecotto is another famous name on the illustrious list of competitors. The son of former Formula 1 and DTM driver, as well as motorcycle world champion Johnny Cecotto, is also making his debut in single-seater racing.
"We are delighted to be part of the ADAC Formula 4 series. We have valued youth development highly for many years. We also supported Michael Schumacher and, currently, Nico Hülkenberg," said Clemens Klinke, member of the board at DEKRA SE and responsible for the Automotive business unit. The DEKRA lettering will be visible on the race number holders for all ADAC Formula 4 racing cars, in the official printed material and on the back wall at the prize giving ceremony on race weekends. DEKRA is a leading global expert organisation and will be the series partner of Formula 4 for an initial period of two years.
The ADAC formula youth development "powered by DEKRA" has been the starting point for future motorsport stars for many years. In the past, Formula 1 drivers such as four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, runner-up Nico Rosberg, Nico Hülkenberg and Ralf Schumacher, as well as DTM stars such as Martin Tomczyk, Pascal Wehrlein and Timo Glock started their careers in the ADAC youth formula series. The new Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel signed up to be the patron for the new Formula 4 series. "I'm excited to see what the championship brings, the guys will be racing at a high level and I'm sure that I'll see some of them again in the Formula 1 at some point in the future," said Vettel.
Naturally all eyes will be on Mick Schumacher. After numerous successes in karting, the teenager will gain experience of car racing. Like his fellow competitors, Schumacher is eligible to participate in the ADAC Formula 4 Rookie Cup, in which the most successful formula newcomer receives an award at the end of the season. Naturally, always under the watchful eye of Schumacher's friend Sebastian Vettel. ADAC sports president Hermann Tomczyk: "It's fantastic that Sebastian as four-time Formula 1 champion is going back to his roots and is getting involved in youth development. It will also be that extra bit of motivation for the young racing drivers when they see that Sebastian also started out like they did once upon a time."
All 24 of the races of the ADAC Formula 4 season can be watched on the live stream at www.SPORT1.de. At least some of the races will be broadcast live or with a delay on Sport 1 or Sport 1 + – with DEKRA always on hand.
